Renick Stevenson

a life lived... some thoughts before dying

Sep 7 - Sep 30; Artist Reception Fri, Sep 7, 2007 @ 6p
This exhibition is an introspective body of works by Renick Stevenson, Artist-in-Residence at the Glenwood Springs Center for the Arts. According to Renick: "This exhibit summarizes the last 72 years of my life." And it's been a wild and crazy life for him. From being abandoned as an infant, becoming an alcoholic at 15-years old, being stabbed and hospitalized by an ex-wife, selling out art shows in Denver, bronco and bull riding, to having dinner with Jack Ruby one year before murdering Lee Harvey Oswald. At this point, Renick feels that the sun is beginning to set. In facing "lady death", he contends, "In western culture, people rarely talk about dying until after the fact. In eastern culture, people talk about it so that you're prepared. A business that doesn't take inventory regularly is rarely successful. Life and death is much the same... you understand that dying is always a reality."Click here to watch a video of Renick!
